Issues addressed

The project aimed to solve several key market problems related to geophysical research. Conventional impulse GPRs are often not precise enough and have limited penetration depth, which makes it difficult to accurately study underground geological structures and objects located below the ground surface. The SGPR technology offers much higher resolution and enables research at depths of up to several dozen meters, which is extremely useful in geology, construction, geoengineering, and other fields, such as archaeology. In addition, the SGPR is based on broadband spectral analysis, which increases the accuracy and detail of the collected data, making the technology even more versatile.

Research carried out using the SGPR technology is non-invasive and characterized by high precision, enabling linearization of point data obtained, for example, from wells. Thanks to this, it is possible to significantly reduce the scope of invasive tests necessary to perform. Advanced software and machine learning algorithms automate and accelerate the data analysis process, further reducing costs and increasing research efficiency. All this makes the technology created by Widmo Spectral Technologies a breakthrough in the global geophysical research market.

Project beneficiaries

SGPRs can be used, among others, in infrastructure and building construction, mining, geodesy, archeology and environmental protection and engineering – wherever information about the geological structure of the area, and what is beneath its surface, has a significant impact on the ongoing or planned activities. In the construction industry, knowing precisely and fully what is below the ground surface, you can precisely determine the best location (for example, for a road or tunnel) and select the optimal construction technology, thus significantly reducing budgets and the risk of long delays. In mining, the SGPR significantly increases operational efficiency by precisely mapping geological structure and identifying resources. This tool enables faster and more accurate mining planning, which can significantly reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. The SGPR is also an extremely useful tool in mine closure processes and in mapping and preventing mining damage.

Major implementation challenges

The project was partially implemented during the pandemic, when global supply chains experienced huge downtimes, which for us resulted primarily in shortages of key components and caused various types of delays in individual stages of creating our SGPR.

Our advice to other applicants

From our deep-tech perspective, introducing revolutionary innovations is a huge challenge – implementing business plans may take much longer and be more difficult than originally expected. Be flexible and, above all, persistent. It’s worth it!
