NCBR Office in Brussels – Business & Science Poland together with the Polish Academy of Sciences – PolSCA Office in Brussels, invite you to the webinar “From blue-sky research into breakthrough innovations. How to enable synergies between the European Research Council (ERC) and the European Innovation Council (EIC)" which takes place on Thursday 16 December at 10h00.
This virtual event will be directed to the research and innovation community in Europe and focus on the European Research Council (ERC) and its Proof of Concept grant scheme and the new European Innovation Council (EIC) and its transition activities, especially in the context of broadening cooperation between frontier science and breakthrough innovation. The ERC PoC helps grantees to bridge the gap between their pioneering research and early phases of its commercialization and EIC Transition funds support innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in the laboratory. It would be also a great opportunity to present current (and future) incentives for the ERC grantees themselves or their team’s members to apply for the EIC funding i.e. Pathfinder and/or Accelerator.
Among our guest we will have keynote speakers: Prof. Kurt Mehlhorn at Saarland University, Director of the MPI for Informatics and, Chair of the Working Group on innovation and relations with industry of the ERC Scientific Council and Dr Špela Stres, Head of Center for Technology Transfer and Innovation, Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljyblijana, member of the newly established EIC Board.
During a panel discussion entitled “From ERC to EIC – lessons from the grantees and new incentives“ we will hear from Polish representatives: Prof. Piotr Garstecki who was among first grantees in Poland receiving the ERC Starting Grant, followed by EIC SME from the European Innovation Council, Prof. Piotr Sankowski who is the first person in Poland who received three European Research Council grants (StGr, PoC and CoG), Prof. Magdalena Król who is a double ERC grantee, awarded first with the Starting Grant and then with a Proof of Concept grant. She was also finalist of the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2020. Last but not least, Mr. Jakub Jasiczak, the Chairman of the association, established to commercialize scientific research results from universities and research institutes and carry out applied research commissioned by enterprises will be among the speakers of this session.
Both parts will be followed by Q&A session.
We invite all representatives of research and innovation communities to participate in this event.
