Issues addressed
The Innovative Biogas Plant project solves several problems that hinder the development of the biogas and biomethane market in Poland. One of the main aspects that the Innovative Biogas Plant solves is the problem of odors. Throughout the entire technological process – from the stage of unloading the substrates to the stage of removing the post-fermentation mass from the system for further processing it into mineral-organic fertilizer. This is a key issue in terms of public perception of this type of projects. Potential investors will not have to deal with frequent protests of local communities.
Another important solution is the possibility of producing solid and liquid fertilizers from digestate using mixtures that improve fertilizer properties.
The project also solves the problem of substrate versatility. The technology used allows the use of a wide range of organic substrates, ranging from grass silage, cattle manure and expired food products, to animal by-products. Moreover, the use of substrates from agri-food waste has a positive impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. Manure, which was previously stored in piles and released harmful substances into the atmosphere, can be used to produce biogas, biomethane, electricity and heat. The production of energy from them is a milestone on the way to emission neutrality, thus supporting the principles of sustainable development.
An additional feature of the technology is the fact that the produced biogas is refined into biomethane. Our ANABIOREC technology enables high-efficiency and stable waste processing into biomethane which can be directly injected into the gas network or compressed into the BIO CNG form and transported to biogas users.
Project beneficiaries
The project results will mainly benefit entrepreneurs interested in the production of agricultural biogas who have problems with access to an electric power network, because they can alternatively produce biomethane instead of electricity. The next group of beneficiaries are plants that have problems with odors due to their surroundings and proximity of residential buildings. The technology minimizes odors that could adversely affect the environment.
Major implementation challenges
The biggest challenge in the project was to prepare a system of digesters that would ensure substrate versatility, work with high dry matter content (up to 30%), and operation in the thermophilic and mesophilic temperature ranges.
