What problem does our project solve?

The project anticipated an intervention in the areas of master's, doctoral and management studies at the Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT).

With regard to the studies, the project enabled extensive modification of the curricula of 20 academic fields of study and the preparation of one practical field of study. The participation of employers in teaching was extended and software licences and consumables for teaching were purchased. At the same time, the participation of visiting professors in teaching students was increased. Thanks to the implementation of the Project, the equipment and development of the Centre for Modern Education were supported, thanks to which part of the didactic content was digitised. Thus, the implementation of the Project in the area of master's degree studies has allowed to improve the quality of education by bringing the curricula closer to the needs of employers, modernising the forms of education and increasing the degree of internationalisation of studies.

In the area of doctoral studies, a crucial task was to increase the degree of internationalisation of the higher education institution. This objective was achieved in two ways. On the one hand, by providing opportunities for English language learning, individual language consultations and soft-skills classes devoted, among other things, to writing publications, searching databases and patent information. On the other hand - through its support for participation in conferences, foreign outgoing placements, international summer schools, and foreign reviews of doctoral theses - the Gdańsk University of Technology enabled doctoral students to be included in the international circulation of science. Internationalisation was also facilitated by interdisciplinary lectures given by visiting professors in doctoral studies.

In the area of management, the Project enabled didactic and managerial competences to be acquired by employees of the Higher Education Institution through a training system. Measures were also implemented to further digitise the Gdańsk University of Technology through the purchase of IT infrastructure, the development and implementation of IT systems and the digitalisation of archive resources. At the same time, some management processes were optimised. All this enabled the implementation of a new organisational culture at the Higher Education Institution.

Who will benefit from the outcomes of the project?

The direct recipients of the Project are:

  1. students who benefit from modified curricula, software licences and innovative digital subject material,
  2. doctoral students who gained the opportunity to pursue their studies in an international environment,
  3. academic teachers who acquired additional competences that they had used in their work with students,
  4. administrative personnel who acquired additional competences, used the infrastructure and IT systems, and implemented optimised management procedures.

In a broader sense, all the inhabitants of northern Poland benefit from the effects of the project, due to the importance and role played by the Gdańsk University of Technology, thanks to the improvement in the quality of education and the implementation of a new organisational culture.

What was the most challenging aspect of the implementation of the project for us?

The greatest challenge of the Project was a synchronisation of so many activities in a relatively short period of time, with particular consideration for the time availability of personnel. The implementation of the project could not paralyse the current didactic and administrative activities of the Gdansk University of Technology.

A big challenge was the restrictions related to countering the COVID-19 pandemic, which was important for the implementation of such a large training component and the international exchange of doctoral students.

Procurement issues were also crucial to the success of the Project.
