Get to know our team

Currently, Noctiluca is an international team. Among us there are experts responsible for business development (in Poland and the USA), patent protection (we have a patent attorney since January this year, we also cooperate with a law firm from the USA), research work (in Poland and South Korea, we also cooperate with a team in Taiwan and in Germany) and production (in Poland, in the laboratory in Toruń).

The laboratory in Toruń alone employs a team of a dozen or so people - mainly chemists - with over 15 years of experience in both research and development projects and the production of organic and organometallic compounds. It is expected to employ approximately 20 people by the end of the year.

See the effect of our work

Noctiluca is a technology company listed on the NewConnect market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. In its laboratory in Toruń, Noctiluca designs, develops and produces new, third and fourth generation emitters for OLED displays. The Company's emitters are organic compounds in the form of powder which, when excited with energy, glow, creating a key element of the display. Noctiluka emitters can be used, among others: in TVs, laptops, smartphones, wearables and many other consumer devices.

In the last 2 years, the Company has made rapid development of technology. It has a modern laboratory in Toruń and an R&D department in Korea, where it tests materials. Moreover, it tightened cooperation with the most important research institutes from Germany (KIT and FEP) and started implementing a project with ITRI, the most important agency for the development of high technologies and industry in Taiwan.

In terms of the development of commercial potential, in recent months Noctiluca has established relationships with industry entities, entered into cooperation and signed a number of agreements, including: with LG Display (which tests emitters), Juhua (tests materials for the ink formulation for printing OLED screens developed by Noctiluka, the best of them, in the next steps, will be tested by display manufacturers), Inuru GmBH, as well as with the world's largest watch manufacturer (including smartwatches) from Switzerland, and with the world's largest producer of consumer electronics from the USA.

In addition to work on the development and commercialization of its own materials, the Company carries out commissioned projects. These include custom synthesis, which Noctiluca performs for some partners, offering a wide range of chemical materials for the photonics market. The second type of commissioned projects are contract research services as Chemical CRO (Chemical Contract Research Organization). This means that the Noctiluca scientific team, at the request of clients, conducts research and development projects in the chemical industry in order to develop cutting-edge solutions - primarily high-performance materials. What problem does our project solve?

Noctiluca emitters are developed for both traditional OLED display production and display printing.

Noctiluca emitters allow for high brightness of screens produced based on them, and at the same time do not contain heavy metals - they are fully organic (the 2nd generation emitters currently used in displays contain rare earth metals and heavy metals, such as iridium or platinum). Within a few years, they may replace 1st and 2nd generation emitters because they are not only better for the environment but also less energy-intensive, more stable, cheaper to produce, and may have a longer lifespan. Moreover, displays with such emitters do not have the so-called burn-in effect (the problem with OLED screens for computers and laptops is the static image, which causes many permanent interface elements to "burn in", e.g. toolbars, icons, logos of your favorite TV station, etc.).

Who will benefit from the project results?

Producers of electronics, both traditionally produced and printed ones, which are becoming more and more popular, will be able to benefit from the project results. Noctiluka emitters can be used, among others, in TVs, laptops, smartphones, wearables and many other consumer devices. They can also be used in the production of light sources (e.g. lighting). Ultimately, they may be included in products reaching consumers around the world.
