What problem is addressed by the project?
In its essence, the project is aimed at meeting the actual human resources needs of potential employers in the BPO/SSC/IT sector and eliminating the related competence deficiencies of students within the scope which is not attainable during the realisation of university study programmes in the fields of Management and Economics. Filling the competence gaps was connected primarily with (1) students acquiring knowledge and skills in the area of using modern ICT methods and tools for mapping, modelling and improving business processes in BPO/SSC/IT companies and (2) providing greater access to classes conducted by business representatives, including specialist work placements. The participation of students in the project is intended to ensure them a special place in the labour market by providing the desired competencies, confirmed by recognised certificates and specialised practice in a company belonging to the BPO/SSC/IT sector. The University continuously monitors the future life of graduates in order to best profile support, tailoring it to both sides of the labour market, i.e. students and employers.
Who uses the project results?
The activities in the project were addressed to a group of 210 full-time second-year students of Management and Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. They were the ones who benefited from targeted competence support documented by recognisable certificates confirming participation in training, such as Lean Six Sigma, Process management using ICT tools, Modelling, analysis and optimisation of process architecture in an organisation, which professional companies, especially training-consulting ones realised.
Indirect beneficiaries of the project's results are companies from the BPO/SSC/IT sector, as they can use the specialised competencies of the graduates of this didactic project, which are now feeding the labour market.
What was the greatest challenge during project implementation?
Certainly, the Covid-19 pandemic, which significantly affected the labour market and forms of business and day-to-day activities, was a huge challenge in implementing the project. This pandemic had a direct impact on how the various tasks undertaken in the project were carried out. The new operating conditions have necessitated additional measures, new methods and innovative solutions, and additional support for students and their relatives.
Our advice for other applicants
We encourage you to use the opportunities offered by NCRD to implement projects, especially those supporting students at an extremely important stage of their lives, which is entering the labour market and initiating their own professional careers. Based on our own experience, we are convinced that the opportunity for students to acquire additional competencies, especially those properly selected in terms of actual market needs, and which are also specialised and practical, significantly facilitates their career start. With these competencies, they acquire the ability to apply for more lucrative and rewarding jobs and with great success.
