The National Centre for Research and Development

Prof. dr hab. inż. Jerzy Małachowski graduated from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw. He was awarded the title of Professor in the field of technical sciences in 2019. The area of his scientific research and implementation technological work focuses on three main issues: development of research methods for materials and structures, development of computer research and simulation analysis methods in security and defence issues, and development of research methods in biomedical engineering issues.

He has led numerous projects and participated as a researcher in more than 30 such projects focused on scientific, development and implementation work funded by, among others, NCN (National Science Centre), NCBR (National Centre for Research and Development), EU (FP6, FP7 and Horizon 2020), EDA (European Defence Agency) and Science for Peace and Security (SPS-NATO). The results of this research include nine patents obtained and three more in the process of approval; silver medal at the International Exhibition of Innovation, Research and New Technologies “Brussels INNOVA 2009”; 8 implementations of technological solutions carried out for the benefit of economic entities and over a dozen of technology expert reports.

He was and is a member of scientific committees of more than 40 national and international conferences. Recently, prof. Małachowski holds and held positions in scientific councils and committees, e.g. as a member of the Committee for Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the Section of Mechanics of Structures and Materials of the Committee on Civil Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Council of the Scientific Discipline Mechanical Engineering of the Military University of Technology (WAT), member of the Council of the Łukasiewicz Research Network Institute – Institute of Aviation (2019–2023), member of the Scientific Council of the Military Institute of Medicine, member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN), member of the Council for Scientific Excellence (term 2024–2027), member of the Council for Industry Innovation of the Łódź Province (from December 2022), Expert of the Ministry of Education and Science for evaluation achievements within the framework of the quality of scientific activity for the years 2017–2021 and Vice-Chairman of the College of Deans of Mechanical Faculties of Polish Technical Universities in the term 2020–2024. Prof. Jerzy Małachowski has served as Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Military University of Technology (WAT) since 2016.

He regularly reviews numerous scientific articles in JCR-listed journals. He has authored more than 600 publications. He has recently conducted and maintains ongoing international collaborations with numerous centres and universities in Europe. He is a recipient of a foundation grant from the NATO Fellowship Programme and the US Research Council, which enabled him to undertake research internships at Florida State University and Indiana State University.

Prof. Jerzy Małachowski received an award for significant achievements in scientific activities (team award) in 2023. In 2022, he received a team award from the Rector-Commandant of the Military University of Technology (WAT) for organisational achievements. In 2019 he was awarded the Medal of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management of the Poznań University of Technology, and in 2016 he was awarded the Medal of prof. Jan Szmelter.

In 2010, he received the Gold Cross of Merit from the President of the Republic of Poland and in 2011 the Medal of the National Education Commission.
