20.01.2025

The final conference of the BIOBoost project, themed "The Future of the Bioeconomy," will take place on January 23 (13:00-18:00), 2025, at the NCBR Office in Brussels, located at Rue Belliard 40 (5th floor). This significant event gathers experts, policymakers, and innovation leaders to explore the evolving landscape of the bioeconomy and the role of innovation agencies in its advancement.

The conference is a platform to discuss key directions in bioeconomy policies, emphasizing sustainability, security, and inclusiveness. It facilitates networking among diverse innovation communities, laying the groundwork for future synergies and fostering collaborations between innovators and end-users.

We will look for answers to the future challenges ahead of the bioeconomy: What will the bioeconomy look like in the near future? Should we expect changes and a new bioeconomy strategy? How is R&I boosting the bioeconomy? Is scaling up and a commercial approach possible in the bioeconomy? What role might the European innovation ecosystem and European innovation agencies play in the bioeconomy? How will it change under the newly formed European Parliament and College of Commissioners?

The day begins with a welcome lunch at 13:00, followed by an engaging series of presentations and discussions:

  • João Labareda from DG RTD, EC will open the discussion with opening remarks on European Innovation Ecosystems;
  • Marek Veselsky will discuss the role of R&I in boosting the bioeconomy;
  • Adam Adamek (EIT Food) will talk about commercial success in the bioeconomy;
  • Conny Hanghøj (Food & Bio Cluster Denmark) will share the BIOBoost project lessons learned on how the innovation agencies can boost the bioeconomy value chains;
  • Barna Kovacs (BIOEAST Secretary-General) will share insights on BioEast with us.
  • Agata Kotkowska (DG ENV, EC) will present an overview of the bioeconomy strategy.

The exchange channel on bioeconomy policies and initiatives will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by Maciej Zdanowicz, where we will explore:

  • key challenges and opportunities in integrating bioeconomy principles into various sectors;
  • boost innovation and investment in bio-based technologies;
  • inclusive collaboration between European industry, academia, and civil society stakeholders;
  • scaling up and commercial success.

The event will be followed by the networking reception and showcase of the bioeconomy initiatives.
