What problem is addressed by the project?
The WARMIE system, developed within the project, solves the need to monitor a patient’s health status based on continuous temperature measurement in a remote and automated manner. The system is designed to support and streamline the work of medical staff - in one place, on the screen of a single monitor, the results of temperature measurements of all patients in a given ward are available, and these data can be presented and analysed for changes over time.
Support for doctors and nurses in hospital wards can be provided by any solution that facilitates patient care. A particularly important matter is the automation of simple, repetitive tasks performed by hospital staff - and these include routine temperature measurement, usually carried out using manually operated thermometers. The introduction of a remote temperature measurement system developed by the company Warmie from Poznań will bring tangible benefits to the hospital’s daily operations, as it allows
- immediate measurement of body temperature in each patient fitted with the sensor;
- automating measurements and freeing up valuable resources for other tasks;
- limit direct contact between staff and infected patients;
- possibility of continuous monitoring of body temperature and notification of its changes.
This last element is extremely important, as many of the patients admitted to the hospital require constant supervision due to the risk of life-threatening complications. Frequent measurement of body temperature will enable early identification of patients whose condition may be deteriorating - this can translate into additional time for staff to respond and appropriate changes in treatment management. Furthermore, the use of the Warmie sensor in hospital wards will allow valuable data to be collected on changes in body temperature during the course of various diseases. Analysis of these data may lead to the discovery of patterns of change that occur in high-risk patients requiring special attention.
Who uses the project results?
As part of the R&D project, the company has developed the WARMIE temperature monitoring system, which consists of a portable temperature sensor with software and mobile and web applications to support the treatment process. The system can be used in a hospital setting for prevention, diagnosis and therapy and, thanks to remote functionality, also for monitoring the health of patients. Continuous temperature monitoring will enable, among other things, rapid identification of postoperative complications (and in Poland alone, more than 2 million operations are performed annually) and can therefore contribute to reducing patient treatment costs and hospitalisation times. In addition, a consumer-oriented device has also been developed to monitor the state of health through temperature monitoring - intended for people who care about their own health and that of their loved ones, especially parents of small children and carers of the elderly and chronically ill.
