The President of the PAA and the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ASN) were discussing the regulatory challenges of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme and the planned actions. Polish delegation also met up with the management of the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) in France.

The IAEA organized a conference in Vienna, launching the Nuclear Harmonization and Standardization Initiative (NHSI). The project supports the common approach and standardization of regulations on SMRs.

There is no radiological emergency for Poland after the shelling of the National Science Centre in Kharkiv. The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) informed about another military attack of the Russian Federation on the nuclear facility at Kharkiv.

Nuclear safety in times of severe crises was at the heart of the sixth European Nuclear Safety Conference. The event gathered the heads of European nuclear safety regulators. Poland was represented by PAA President, Dr Łukasz Młynarkiewicz.

The heads of Polish and Finnish nuclear regulatory authorities discussed the plans for future regulatory co-operation during the PAA visit to Finland. The PAA experts also visited the newly commissioned Unit 3 at Olkiluoto.

The members of the IAEA BoG are discussing the safety issues during the regular session at the headquarters in Vienna. The PAA President, Dr Łukasz Młynarkiewicz, and the Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna, Ambassador Dominika Krois, represented Poland during the first day of the session.

Improvement of the radiation protection system and the new Strategy were at the heart of the 29th HERCA Board of Heads (BoH) meeting held in Budapest on 19-20 May. Poland was represented by Andrzej Głowacki – Vice President of the PAA.

The PAA initiated co-operation with another foreign partner, which is the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration (SNSA). The Memorandum of Understanding on nuclear safety and radiation protection was signed in Ljubljana during the Polish visit to Slovenia.

The public consultation period of documents underlying the second Topical Peer Review in the EU and Switzerland will last until 27 May 2022. The current TPR 2 focuses on fire protection and safety. In Poland, TPR 2 will be performed at the MARIA research reactor.
