Meeting of the NATO Political Committee in Poland
01.10.2019
On September 26 - 27, on the initiative of the Permanent Delegation of Poland to NATO, an external meeting of the NATO Political Committee was held in Poland. Over 30 representatives of allied countries and the NATO International Secretariat took part in it. It was the first external meeting of the Committee since its resumption of work in 2014.
On the first day of the visit, participants took part in a panel discussion organized by the Polish Delegation to NATO with the participation of the director of the NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence in Vilnius, Romualdas Petkevicius, on the role of the Middle East in ensuring the supply of energy carriers to Europe.
The most important element of the visit to Poland was, however, a meeting with Paweł Jakubowski, the President of the Management Board of the Polskie LNG Company, which is the owner and operator of the terminal of President Lech Kaczyński in Świnoujście. During the meeting they discussed the impact of LNG on the global gas market and Poland's diversification strategy.
Guests from Brussels also had the opportunity to visit the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, where they learned about the functioning of the modern installation, including the process of fuel unloading.
The NATO Political Committee is made up of representatives of all NATO member states and deals with discussing and exchanging information on political and regional issues of interest to member states. It is an advisory and support body for the North Atlantic Council.
