Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki's visit to the United States

Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki paid an official visit to the United States. As part of the delegation, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education visited Washington and New York. He attended Science, Technology & Innovation Forum for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum), he also met with representatives of federal government.

The main subjects of the event were the use of science, technology and innovation to effectively meet the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. During the discussion, special attention was paid to aspects of poverty, hunger, good health and quality of life, peace, justice, as well as partnership to achieve the goals.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki talked about the application of science and technology for the effective use of sustainable solutions and the main challenges related to the effective and efficient implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the STI Forum, the Undersecretary of State also met with prof. Maria Leptin, President of the European Research Council (ERC), and Navid Hanif, Assistant Secretary-General at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The talks revolved around opportunities to use Polish experience to help developing countries.

Visit to Washington

The Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education also visited Washington, where he met delegates of the administration, academic institutions and the American Polish community.

At the Department of State, Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki talked with Justin Friedman, responsible for nuclear energy, and Dr Patricia Gruber, science and technology adviser. Developing and strengthening cooperation with the United States in these areas is a priority for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The visit also included a meeting with Kei Koizumi, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Principal Deputy Director.

The Undersecretary of State also visited the National Academy of Sciences. He participated in the opening ceremony of a digital collection on Poland and Central and Eastern Europe at the Congress Library.

The visit also included Polish artistic accents: a piano recital by Mateusz Krzyżowski to celebrate the 20th  anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union.
