The Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education met with the European Commission’s Director-General for Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen. The talks were focused on Poland’s upcoming presidency of the EU Council, plans related to the development of higher education and the concept of a common European diploma.
Establishing cooperation and key priorities
One of the purposes of the visit by representatives of the European Commission was to learn about Poland’s main goals during its presidency of the EU Council. The priorities of the Ministry of Science are focused primarily on adapting higher education to the challenges of modern times as well as developing international cooperation between academic centers. The talks included a proposal to introduce a common European diploma to facilitate such cooperation.
“Poland has set a very ambitious goal for our presidency, namely the adoption of a Council resolution on a common European diploma. Our meeting today is crucial, given both the timing and the current status of work on the higher education package, especially the concept of a common European diploma and the diverse opinions of member states. Poland will, of course, seek a compromise,” said the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
