Preparations for Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council – visit of the head of the Ministry of Science Dariusz Wieczorek to Brussels

Minister Dariusz Wieczorek paid an official visit to Brussels. While there, he met with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU Piotr Serafin as well as representatives of the Polish science and innovation sector from the National Center for Research and Development and the Office of Science Promotion “PolSCA” of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The delegation also included: Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Diana Matusik and the Minister’s Plenipotentiary for European Affairs and the Polish Presidency of the EU Council Prof. Patrycja Matusz.
Strengthening the participation of the Polish scientific community in the EU
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the main priorities and plans in the context of Poland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025. Among the issues discussed during the meetings were the strengthening of the national representation of the research and development sector at the European institutions as well as the challenges facing the European community. They also discussed ways to develop the participation of the Polish scientific community in EU framework programs. Minister Dariusz Wieczorek expressed hope for a stronger presence of Polish scientists and research institutions in Brussels, which will contribute to even better recognition on the international arena.
The schedule of the visit also included a meeting with representatives of the NCRD office in Brussels, where specific strategies and projects aimed at increasing the involvement of Polish scientists in European research programs were discussed. The visit to the Office of Science Promotion of PolSCA PAN, on the other hand, was an opportunity to learn about their activities to promote Polish science internationally. The minister emphasized the role of both institutions in building strong scientific cooperation between Poland and the European Union, which is crucial for further development and innovation.
“The meetings showed that a lot of work lies ahead of us, and our goal is to strengthen the representation of Polish science in Brussels. I hope that the voice of the Polish scientific community will be increasingly heard on the European arena,” said the head of the Ministry of Science.
