Polish space law expert recognized internationally

Katarzyna Malinowska, PhD, director of the Center for Space Studies at Kozminski University, has been honored with the prestigious Rosalind Franklin Society 2023 award for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of space law.
Analysis of challenges in the space sector
The Pole received the award for her paper “From Safety to Security: Legal and Regulatory Approaches to Space Situational Awareness.” In the publication, the author analyzes the challenges facing Central and Eastern European countries in the space sector. Among the main problems, the author mentions unfavorable geographical location, difficulties in raising the funds necessary for development or limited awareness of the benefits of the sector among public customers. The discussion undertaken focuses mainly on Poland as the largest economy in this part of Europe.
Supporting women in STEM
The Rosalind Franklin Society promotes the achievements of women and minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The organization’s patron is British crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, whose research played a key role in the discovery of the structure of DNA. The association works with many scientific institutions, recognizing and rewarding outstanding research while inspiring future generations of scientists.
