22.04.2024

On 19th April 2024, Director General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Diana Matusik, met with the Plenipotentiary of the Minister for university support in improving accessibility, Anna Rutz, and the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, Government Plenipotentiary for the Disabled, Łukasz Krasoń. The talks at the headquarters of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy focused on the "Accessible University" NCBR competition.

Better accessibility for the disabled

The meeting revolved around the new uniform system of assessing disability, taking into account the required support. Improved career counselling for students with special needs was also discussed. Development of educational support standards in higher education institutions and strengthening the effectiveness of the Accessibility Fund were among other topics.

"Accessible University" - NCBR competition

The topic of the talks was also the NCBR competition “Accessible University” implemented under the European Funds for Social Development (FERS) Programme. “It aims to contribute to the elimination of barriers in access to higher education,” said the Director General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education at the meeting.

“It is about implementing the principles of equal opportunities through providing appropriate infrastructure and organising the educational process in a way that will ensure that studies are tailored to the needs of all students, especially those with disabilities”, added director Diana Matusik. The NCBR National Centre for Research and Development will allocate PLN 400 million to provide students with special needs with the opportunity to study at Polish universities. Funds for this purpose come from the European Funds for Social Development programme.

Intersectoral cooperation

“I found the meeting very constructive. Intersectoral cooperation in implementing accessibility both in schools and in higher education, as well as in social policy, is extremely important. That is why I am glad that the Minister is so open in declaring his willingness to support our activities,” said the Plenipotentiary of the Minister for supporting universities in improving accessibility. Anna Rutz invited the Minister to participate in the Forum of University Representatives for the Disabled, which will be held on 18th to 19th September 2024 at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
