The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. One of the highlights of the anniversary celebration was the Marie Curie-Skłodowska International Congress “Innovation is a Woman. Science - Business - Education.” The event was attended by Minister Dariusz Wieczorek.
In his speech, the head of the Ministry of Science highlighted the importance of innovation in science and business, emphasizing the unique role of women in the development of these fields. The minister added that their contribution to the implementation of innovative projects is invaluable. He also pointed to the need to increase women’s participation in the technological and scientific sectors. During the congress, he also announced plans to launch a program to support student culture. The program will take the form of a grant competition aimed at academic clubs, teams and organizations, among others. “We plan to launch a competition dedicated to academia, a competition that will support all ventures in the area of culture, including student clubs,” he said.
Minister Wieczorek stressed that investing in student culture plays an important integrative role. “It is certainly worth to invest. Having visited the academic community, I see that more and more rectors, university authorities are beginning to appreciate this. They are creating student culture centers, trying to use this base that they have, because the whole environment realizes that its integration is necessary. And that it is necessary to present – in addition to the academic offer – another offer that will be available to students so that they feel at home at the university, in this environment,” he added.
The head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education stressed that science and culture must be at the highest level in Poland, and the role of the ministry, the government and the rectors is to “create space and opportunities.”
The role of women in science, education and business
The congress was divided into two main thematic tracks: science and business. The first focused on the international cooperation of universities within the ATHENA consortium as well as the benefits of strategic partnerships in academic education. The second track presented the successes of Polish brands led by women. The key point of this part of the meeting was a panel discussion entitled “The Female Face of Business,” which featured a discussion on the challenges faced by women in business, but also the successes that have been achieved thanks to their determination, innovation and ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
The event was not only a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also a place for building relationships between the science, business and policy sectors. Participants had the opportunity to establish cooperation that in the future may result in new projects and initiatives that promote innovation and development.
