A meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science with representatives of the General Secretariat of the EU Competitiveness Council in the research configuration. Among other topics, the parties discussed priorities related to scientific research and innovation in the context of Poland’s preparations for the EU presidency.

On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the meeting was attended by Minister Dariusz Wieczorek and Prof. Patrycja Matusz, Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Science for European Affairs and the Presidency of the Republic of Poland in the Council of the European Union. The delegation of the General Secretariat of the EU Competitiveness Council was represented by Isabel Riaño, Director-General for Competitiveness and Trade, Marius Hirte, Director for Research, Space, Commercial Law and Consumer Protection, and Núria Tello, Advisor to the Director-General.

Priorities of the Ministry of Science as regards research and innovation

The discussion was focused, among other topics, on the priorities of the Ministry for Science as regards research and innovation, which focus on three key areas: openness, inclusion and synergies. The main goals are to increase participation in research programs, build synergies between EU and national funding programs, and promote science and innovation as central to the EU’s economic agenda.

The talks also covered key documents that Poland intends to deliberate on during its presidency. Among them were the mid-term evaluation of Horizon Europe, the extension of the EURATOM regulation for 2026-2027, and issues related to the development of artificial intelligence in science.

The meeting was an important step in our country’s preparations for the presidency of the EU Council. The priorities discussed are aimed at strengthening European cooperation in research and innovation and emphasizing Poland’s role as a leader in these key areas.
