New cooperation programme with Bulgaria

07.06.2024

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education signed a new 2024-2027 cooperation programme with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria. On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the agreement was signed by Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki, and the Bulgarian side was represented by Ambassador Margarita Ganeva. This is a yet another implementing agreement for the 1993 intergovernmental agreement regulating academic exchange.

New cooperation programme with Bulgaria

Academic exchanges and learning Polish in Bulgaria

The new cooperation programme includes: increasing scholarship limits for the exchange of academic staff, including teaching, research and research-teaching staff. The previous limits of 1 to 10 months have now been lengthened to 10 to 30 months. Additionally, under the new agreement, Polish language courses will be launched at universities in Plovdiv and Shumen.

“We are proud to observe growing interest in learning Polish in Bulgaria, as evidenced by the opening of new language classes at two Bulgarian universities,” said Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki.

Ambassador Ganeva remarked that since the COVID-19 pandemic, over 500,000 Poles have visited Bulgaria, which increases the demand for specialists in the field of Polish language and culture in that region. She also commented on the long-term character of Polish-Bulgarian academic cooperation, recalling this year's celebration of the 65th anniversary of first joint archaeological mission in Novae on the Danube.

Academic cooperation between Poland and Bulgaria

Initiatives undertaken jointly by both countries serve not only to enrich culturally, but also to develop durable ties between the two nations. An increase in the number of Poles visiting Bulgaria and mutual interest in culture and language show how important the implementation of such programmes is in strengthening international relations.
