At the meeting held on August 26, new authorities of this organization were elected. Marek Więckowski, PhD – professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences – was appointed vice-president of the International Geographical Union.

09.08.2024Preparations for Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council – visit of the head of the Ministry of Science Dariusz Wieczorek to BrusselsMinister Dariusz Wieczorek paid an official visit to Brussels. While there, he met with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU Piotr Serafin as well as representatives of the Polish science and innovation sector from the National Center for Research and Development and the Office of Science Promotion “PolSCA” of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The delegation also included: Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Diana Matusik and the Minister’s Plenipotentiary for European Affairs and the Polish Presidency of the EU Council Prof. Patrycja Matusz.

11.06.2024Head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education at Rzeszów University of Technology, “We would like to restore the authority of the academic staff”Minister Dariusz Wieczorek visited Rzeszów University of Technology as part of regular meetings with university authorities and students throughout Poland. The main purpose of the visits is to identify the needs, problems and challenges of the academic community. It is also an element which will be subject to consultations before planned changes to the Act on Higher Education.

07.06.2024New cooperation programme with BulgariaThe Ministry of Science and Higher Education signed a new 2024-2027 cooperation programme with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria. On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the agreement was signed by Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki, and the Bulgarian side was represented by Ambassador Margarita Ganeva. This is a yet another implementing agreement for the 1993 intergovernmental agreement regulating academic exchange.

05.06.2024Student Noble Prize - students awarded by studentsThe winners of the 15th edition of the Student Nobel Prize competition have been selected. The initiative promotes student achievements in various fields. The competition has enjoyed great popularity over the last dozen years. This year's event gathered almost 700 participants from nearly 100 universities. The competition received support from the Social responsibility of science II programme launched by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

04.06.2024Minister Dariusz Wieczorek attends the opening of the Boeing Engineering Centre in WarsawThe head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education attended the opening ceremony of Boeing Engineering Centre in Warsaw. “We want to be leaders in new technologies, research and development. We will support all such initiatives," said Dariusz Wieczorek. The investment will create several hundred new jobs in Poland, where Boeing already employs over 1,100 staff.

The deputy minister talked about Poland's involvement in cooperation with the EUI, of the importance of global academic cooperation across borders and of prospects which studying abroad provides.

22.05.2024New term of office of the State Committee for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language and the first meeting of the teamOn 20th May, the first meeting of the State Committee for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language in the new term took place at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Andrzej Szeptycki appointed new team members. The Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education also outlined the strategic challenges facing the body. The current four-year term of office of the committee began on 26th April this year.
