Over 60 percent of Poles assess the family policy well

10.04.2019

As on today, the current state family policy is assessed at least well by 62 percent of Poles – as results from the study conducted by CBOS after three years of functioning of the “Family 500+” programme. Until 2013, at most 16 percent of people had such an opinion. – I admit that I am happy with this result. It shows how important a wise family policy is and confirms that we are going in the right direction - says Minister Elżbieta Rafalska.

48 percent of Poles assess the current state family policy as good, and 14 percent – as very good. 27 percent assess the policy as satisfactory and only 7 percent as unsatisfactory (4 percent do not have an opinion on this matter) – as results from the study conducted by CBOS three years after the introduction of the “Family 500+” programme.

The report indicates a visible influence of the “Family 500+” programme on the assessment of the state family policy. “Until 2013 inclusive, a percentage of Poles who perceived the state pro-family activities well or very well did not exceed 16 percent. The majority of the respondents assessed it as satisfactory and in some years even as unsatisfactory” - we read. As of 2017 a significant improvement is visible, and the share of “unsatisfactory” responses reaches not more than 11 percent.

What is interesting, the most critical persons pointing out the most disadvantages of the programme are the persons who have a child, but do not receive the “500+” benefit. “Along with the increase in the number of children on whom the respondents receive the child-support benefit, the satisfaction with the state’s activities and underlining the advantages of the programme increases” – as results from the study.

As indicated by the authors of the study, in this year the total percentage of responses “well” or “very well” has been the highest since CBOS started monitoring this issue. As has been underlined, it is probably related to the announced extension of the “Family 500+” programme on each child, which is supported by 75 percent of Poles.

Poles were also asked, among others, if, in their opinion, the programme contributes to the increase in births in Poland. Every fourth respondent (24 percent) is convinced that it significantly contributes to the increase in births and 47 percent believe that it contributes “to a certain, though, small extent”. 23 percent believe that the programme has no impact on the number of births at all and 6 percent answered “difficult to say”.

This is not all. As results from the report, “the respondents receiving the child-support benefit on at least two children more often than those receiving the benefit on only one child, experience in their families a significant improvement of the situation of children from poor families, an improvement in the relationship, marriage, taking or accelerating the decision on the first or another child”.
